Hello again! It’s Marla, here to talk about the holidays.
Now that you’re full of turkey and pumpkin pie, I’m sure you’ve shifted your attention to Christmas. Decorating, baking, shopping, wrapping and all the parties will be taking up most of your time this month.
It’s the most exciting time of the year… for most people. This year, several people I know are suffering from a loss and we hope they find comfort in the memories of past holidays.
Let’s talk about gifts for a minute. Do you ever consider books as a Christmas gift for the reader on your list? Believe me, I was an avid reader long before I was an author or an editor or a publisher and books were a favorite gift of mine. Everyone who knew me was well aware they couldn’t go wrong with books as a gift for me. One year, my late husband signed me up for a book club as a gift. One of those where you get so many books a month. It was wonderful, but I went through all the books the first week and had to wait until the next month for more. I have a fascination with the Royal Family, so my mother bought me a book about the history of the Royal Family one year. In recent years, my bonus daughter bought Prince Harry’s book for me. My late mother-in-law bought historical romance novels for me.
But have you ever considered publishing services for the author on your list? I don’t know any author who wouldn’t welcome a gift certificate to help with the costs of publishing his or her new work. At Silver Rose Press, we offer several choices. Editing, cover art, and formatting are just a few. We have packages, but we also offer individual services in our Book-A-Teria section.
So, while you’re making our your shopping list, why not add a Silver Rose Press gift certificate to that list? The author in your life will thank you for it.

Back to the other aspects of the holiday, I think I’m going to put my decorations up today. I’m debating on the big tree. We have a new puppy in the house and he likes to get into things, so I may be putting up the small tabletop tree this year. My grandson is coming over later to help me, so we’ll see what develops.
In years past, I did a lot of baking for the holidays. I got away from that in recent years, but this year, I may try it again.
Then, there’s that shopping list… I really need to sit down and go over that again.
I hope you are doing well in your preparations and enjoying the season. I wish you peace and love during this season, and if you are missing someone this year, I definitely understand. Memories will help you through the season, but don’t forget to make new ones along the way.
If you are an author, you may be tempted to set your WIP aside for now because of all the prep and busy days this month. Even if you can find a few hours a week to add some words, it will keep the work fresh in your mind.
I’ve very recently gone from a full-time day job to part-time. Yes, I’m now officially a part-timer, so that gives me a little more time to concentrate on writing, editing and Silver Rose Press. It also gives me more time to devote to some holiday prep that I may have neglected in recent years, like the baking I mentioned earlier. Whatever your situation, don’t forget to schedule some time for yourself. Turn out all the lights except the ones on the Christmas tree, sit back with a cup of cocoa or a glass of wine, and just enjoy.
Sometimes, we rush through the season and don’t really enjoy it. Don’t let that happen to you this year.
Remember to contact us at silverrosepress@gmail.com if you want to know more about our services or gift certificates. We’ll be happy to help you.
Until next time, happy holiday prepping from Debi and me.
